The presentation started by clarifying
what mediated spaces were, because I am sure that most of us were not
completely sure about the entire meaning and function of it. I would assume,
before this class, that mediated spaces are online pages creates to create
connection between people, and those would be the social media sites like
Facebook, Instagram, and so on. They explained that they are not only social media,
but every area that create any specific interaction between people, so that
would be every single website, and physical space around the world. Examples of
those physical spaces are the classroom, theatre, grocery store, and many
others. All of those spaces has a purpose and rules to interact with others
while in it. Every one of those spaces are organized in a certain way in order
to fulfill the purpose of it.
The group
created a very informative and organized presentation, providing a lot of curiosities
about their topic and I would say my favorite part was the virtual tour
section. There are always new things coming and I had no idea that virtual tour
was so easy and popular already. I got very curious about other places, and
actually had a virtual tour on a couple of other museums. This made me think of
the virtual tours that Google Maps had created, which are basically aerial
tours that are interesting and are definitely a very curious mediated space.
Another part of their presentation that I really enjoyed was about how each
mediated space is organized to such a detail that we are not even aware of it.
They talked about how grocery stores are organized, how each section is ordered
by importance, the necessary ones at the end, and the expensive ones on the way
to the necessary ones. This is a whole process of research of the path of
clients, and it was very interesting for me to think and realize all the
details that are in a certain order, so it makes the clients consume more
products.
I think the
group did a great job with the presentation, it was very informative, and full
of details and curiosities, which it obviously makes it much more interesting.
I liked the fact that the class was involved with it and we were asked
questions along the presentation. They discussed every topic with us, and made
sure that we all learn and understand about mediated spaces and what they are.
